If the thought of missing an episode of your favourite TV program leaves you weak at the knees and trembling at the lip then either you need to get out more or the Humax HDR-7500T will make a welcome addition to your home theatre set up.

Acting as both a set-top box and PVR, the HDR-7500T enables you to watch and record digital TV, use YouTube and iView and access content from your network and USB hard drives.

While quite plain in the looks department (particularly once it’s been smeared with fingerprints) the HDR-7500T is user friendly and provides crisp, clear images and vibrant colour.

If you’re concerned that the less tech-minded members of your household will struggle, fear not. The large remote control is intuitive and the menus are easy to navigate. Grandparents should get the hang of it in a matter of minutes.

Sitting at the centre of the console is a ring of light not unlike the one on the Xbox 360, changing hue depending on the HDR-7500T’s status; blue indicates that it is operating, red is recording and amber means it’s on standby. Further information is displayed on a screen to the left.

The unit features twin digital tuners, which enable you to record two programs at a time and play back a recording while doing so.

You can also stream media from your network with minimal hassle and the HDR-7500T plays an impressive range of file types. Access to YouTube and the ABC’s iView is also seamless, with silky smooth video playback.

The HDR-7500T is a great unit. By focusing on functionality, Humax has come up with a set-top box and PVR that anyone can use with ease. While it won’t win any awards in the style department, a unit like this is not designed to stand out. The HDR-7500T will just sit in the corner doing it’s thing; helping you make the most of your television-viewing experience.

The Humax HDR-7500T is available in two models. The 500GB model will set you back $449, while the 1TB model comes in at $549.
